Company profile
1839 Honey is a company that exudes a pioneering spirit, which is where the company name comes from as it refers to the year when a lady called Mary Bumby first set foot on New Zealand, bringing with her two beehives.
Unwittingly, she became the catalyst to the story of Manuka honey as it was she who introduced the honey bee to the country.
1839 Honey has taken up her pioneering mantle while also striving to foster a close-knit working environment focused on producing hand-crafted Manuka honey.
Powerful tasting Manuka honey
The innovative spirit of 1839 Honey is evident firstly in the packaging as the outer cardboard packaging has very high and striking design values.
As for this 1839 Honey UMF 15+ Manuka Honey, the honey has a strong bouquet of herbs and spices with a hint of toffee, while the colour of the honey is an absolutely stunning golden dark brown colour.
This UMF 15+ rated honey has the instant taste of classic Manuka honey: a very strong taste of herbs and spices, almost like a herbal liqueur but this initial spiciness is followed by a soft and long aftertaste of caramel that increases and lingers. This is not at all a sweet Manuka honey.
Triple churned
1839 has pioneered its own method of triple churning its Manuka honey, and the texture of this particular UMF 15+ Manuka honey was fabulously smooth – it just glides down.
Trust code
The QR code on the side of the jar also worked and it confirmed the authenticity of the jar and also that it was within its shelf life as well as the batch number. Additionally, it brought up a map showing the locations where the hives were located.
For those who prefer this stronger type of Manuka taste this is a great choice, and of course the UMF rating of 15+ (MGO 514+) means it ranks highly for its purity and antibacterial activities.
1839 Honey also produces an even stronger UMF Manuka honey that is a whopping UMF 20+ for the serious connoisseur.
This 1839 Honey UMF 15+ Manuka Honey is a serious honey worth savouring every single last smooth drop.
