This antibacterial characteristic is also unusually high compared to other types of honey.
The concentration of MGO can vary, which is why authentic Manuka honey must be tested to verify its level and purity. There is a link between the level of MGO and its antibacterial properties, although Manuka honey has other natural compounds that are also thought to be involved in this process.
Antipodes has had a well-established relationship with Watson & Son to supply its Manuka honey for use in Antipodes skincare products. Based in the North Island of New Zealand, Watson & Son supplies monofloral Manuka honey that is tested in its own accredited laboratory.
