Description

Kiva Raw Manuka Honey UMF 20+ is an exciting and rare Manuka honey from the New Zealand superfood company Kiva.

Kiva sources only the highest quality superfoods from producers who are committed to sustainable farming and beekeeping practices.

Manuka honey is a rare honey as the manuka tree, which is the source of the nectar and pollen, only grows in remote areas of New Zealand (and to a limited extent also in Australia).

What is UMF Manuka Honey?

UMF is an abbreviation for Unique Manuka Factor and the UMF Honey Association grants licences to Manuka honey producers to use the UMF label only if they fulfil certain criteria.

The UMF label gives consumers certainty that the product is a genuine Manuka honey that has been tested in an independent laboratory.

The label also tells consumers about the purity of the honey and the higher the number the purer it is.

Kiva Raw Manuka Honey UMF 20+ is very rare as only a small quantity of Manuka honey has such a high UMF rating.

High in MGO too

This raw Manuka honey also has an MGO rating of 850+, which is also extremely high. The MGO level refers to one of the natural markers contained in the honey and MGO is an abbreviation for methylglyoxal.

Research carried out by the UMF Honey Association has shown there is a link between the level of MGO and the honey’s antibacterial properties.

If all the science is not of interest then the UMF label simply guarantees the quality and purity of the honey.

Manuka honey is also unusual in its taste as it is not usual as sweet as other types of honey and some varieties can taste almost spicy.

Kiva Raw Manuka Honey UMF 20+ can be used as a natural alternative to sugar or then try it as an ingredient in face mask.

However, a UMF level of 20+ is so rare that a great way to enjoy it is just to savour the unique taste by eating a teaspoonful (or more) straight from the jar.

(NB – doctors advise against infants below the age of twelve months from consuming honey).
