The New Zealand Honey Co. produces a range of different types of honey but its prized manuka honey is truly a special and sought-after natural product.
The Land of the Long White Cloud as the Maoris rather poetically refer to New Zealand is the birthplace of manuka honey. Few products have captured the public’s imagination as much as this special honey and for good reason.
Pure manuka honey is a natural product made by the busy honey bee in remote and pristine environments. The New Zealand Honey Co. is based on New Zealand’s South Island and has long-standing relationships with beekeepers in upland and rural farming communities in the Central Otago region.
Consumers wanting to ensure that they are getting a genuine product for their money can look to the UMF label for assurance.
In order to be granted use of the label, New Zealand Honey Co. Raw Manuka Honey UMF 10+ will have been tested independently in line with the guidelines issued by the Unique Manuka Factor Honey Association.
The guidelines have been developed as a result of the UMFA’s research work to identify markers that are present in genuine manuka honey, and these include elements such as Leptosperin and Methylglyoxal (MGO).
In simple terms, the higher the number, the purer the honey; there is also an association between a higher level of MGO and the antibacterial nature of manuka honey, although MGO is not the sole factor behind manuka honey’s unique properties.
One thing is guaranteed though – when you taste manuka honey, you will be amazed at its complex and delicious taste. The honey often has the consistency of a creamy fudge so indulge yourself with this natural wonder of nature.
