This Watson & Son Manuka Honey MGO 400+ is certified to contain the level of MGO stated.
This is a relatively rare and pure manuka honey since a level of MGO of 400+ makes is quite potent and not all Manuka honey has such a high level of MGO.
If the labelling of Manuka honey leaves you a little confused, MGO refers to something called methylglyoxal.
Years of academic research into Manuka honey led to the discovery that MGO was a key element in the antibacterial activity of Manuka honey (although not the only factor involved).
This is the reason why some jars of genuine Manuka honey state this level of MGO (although there are other labelling systems as well as the level of MGO).
Most of the world’s genuine and premium Manuka honey comes from New Zealand because this is home to the Manuka bush and it is the nectar from this all-important bush that is the key natural ingredient for the bees.
