Description
Manuka honey is a fascinatingly delicious natural product from New Zealand. Manuka Doctor is a New Zealand-based company that traces its history as far back as 1901 and manages over 60,000 bee hives on 11,000 acres of land.
Manuka Doctor is proud of its history and its honey products that can be traced back to each individual hive.
Fascinating manuka honey
Manuka honey has gained a reputation worldwide because of its unusual antibacterial properties. This is because the honey has something called Methylglyoxal, or MGO, which is produced naturally by the bees when they make the honey.
In simple terms, the higher the level of MGO the higher the antimicrobial properties. This Manuka Doctor Manuka Honey MGO 55 is quite low in terms of its MGO level.
The level of MGO can reach as high as 800 or more!
However, this is still a delicious jar of manuka honey and worth trying if you just want to experience the taste of manuka honey.
Multifloral and monofloral honey
Manuka Doctor produces two types of manuka honey: a multifloral and a monofloral manuka honey.
Both need to pass strict independent tests in order to use the manuka honey label. A monofloral manuka honey is purer than this multifloral variety, which may also have the nectar and pollen from a variety of flowers and plants.
The honey itself has a very distinct taste and some describe it as having quite a complex and aromatic taste since it is not always as sweet as traditional honey.
It should be noted that experts recommend that children below the age of one should not eat honey.
