Watson & Son source their manuka honey from a network of over 45 beekeepers from around the North Island of New Zealand. Every drop of honey can be traced back to where it was produced thanks to the company’s sophisticated manuka honey production chain, which is part of a rigorous control system.
Watson & Son put great emphasis on maintaining a strict control and testing system to make sure that the manuka honey remains free of contaminants and as part of the testing procedure to certify that the honey has the special naturally occurring compounds necessary to be considered genuine manuka honey.
The world has woken up to the incredible qualities of manuka honey, but not all honey sold and marketed as manuka honey actually has the special qualities, which is the result of unique element called methylglyoxal, or MGO, which occurs naturally in manuka honey.
Watson & Son 10+ Manuka Honey (1kg) has been certified through laboratory testing as having an MGO level of 300+. The grading system used by Watson and Son is the Molan Gold Standard, and the numbering system relates to the purity and quality of the honey.
The system is based on the work of Professor Peter Molan, who discovered manuka honey’s unusual antibacterial quality.
Manuka honey is a very versatile as well as natural product – put it in your tea or coffee, drizzle it over your favourite ice cream or use it as a sweetener in baking. Or then just eat a few teaspoons from the jar.
Children below the age of one should not eat honey.
