Manuka Health, the producer of MGO branded manuka honeys and this MGO 100+ Manuka Honey, has been one of the pioneering companies behind the scientific study of manuka honey and in developing new honey and pollen-related products, not to mention its range of high quality manuka honey.
The company started out in 2006 and it was in the following year that a research partnership with the Technical University of Dresden discovered that the unique characteristics of manuka honey was caused by the presence of a compound called methyglyoxal (MGO).
Manuka Health then went on to develop a system of testing and rating this level of MGO, which gave rise to the MGO Manuka Honey brand.
MGO 100+ Manuka Honey has been tested at Manuka Health’s in-house laboratory and the figure means it is a genuine manuka honey.
The 100+ rating means the honey contains 100mg/kg of methylglyoxal, which puts it at the lower end of the MGO scale as the highest MGO rating for manuka honey is MGO 550+.
MGO (or methylgloyxal) is formed naturally during the process that bees turn nectar into honey and needs to be present if the honey is to be classed as genuine manuka honey.
The pristine and stunning natural environment of New Zealand provides the raw ingredients for this MGO 100+ Manuka Honey. The company respects its natural origins and has developed a number of sustainable practices and traceability from the ‘beehive to the shelf’.
MGO 100+ Manuka Honey has the full and aromatic flavour typical of manuka honey.
NB: children below the age of one should not eat honey.
