MGO stands for methylglyoxal, which the company and its German research colleagues in Dresden discovered as being the compound that is responsible for manuka honey’s well-documented natural characteristics.

It is a different system to the other well-known trademark UMF or Unique Manuka Factor, but consumers will know that this is a genuine manuka honey. Manuka Health consider this MGO 100+ Manuka Honey to be a moderate level of MGO, although the brand has others that have a rating as high as 550+.

Manuka honey is famed for its natural properties and there is considerable ongoing research into all of these properties. The honey must contain this naturally occurring element methylglyoxal (MGO) for it to be considered a genuine manuka honey.

Manuka Health has also pioneered research into the honey and has recently launched a range of wound care products that are made with medical grade manuka honey.
